This is a fun activity to do on the first day or within the first week of school. I used it in 4th and 5th grade, but it can be adapted for any grade level. The students fill these poems out in “secret” and turn them in. The teacher then reads each poem one at a time and the students have to guess who filled it out. This can be done all at once as a class, or the teacher can choose to “post” a poem sporadically throughout the week and have the students write down their guesses on a sheet of paper posted by the poem or on a piece of paper that gets dropped into a box/jar that sits nearby. The guesses are read before the “reveal”. The teacher could even turn it into a math activity by tallying and/or graphing the guesses. Possibilities are endless with this resource!
