Twenty-five years later, the girl, now a forty-three year-old woman who has changed her name to Kathleen, is living in a small Eastern Washington town where she is a single mother to a seventeen year-old boy named Tyler.
Tyler is a pretty normal kid. He has a crazy best friend named Preston and has always had a serious crush on a girl named Jessie. He’s not a star athlete, his grades are pretty average and he puts up with getting pushed around by Jessie’s obnoxious boyfriend, Graham. But, one day, everything changes as he begins to develop abilities he’s only read about in comic books.
As major catastrophes around the world are mysteriously averted by unusual heroes, Kathleen witnesses the fulfillment of the earlier prophecy as she watches Tyler evolve into a living miracle. The Gift of Tyler is a delightful story that will simultaneously make you laugh out loud and pull at your heartstrings. This is the first release in the Gift of the Elements series.
The accompanying novel study unit consists of classroom lessons that include reading four chapters from the novel in any format chosen by the educator, vocabulary work, group discussions and hands-on activities, as well as individual assignments. Each lesson is designed to be spread out over two days. The lessons before tests include a day for catch-up or review. The instructor is provided with a “For the Teacher” page at the beginning of each lesson providing the vocabulary words for that section, as well as links to online resources that give background information for any reference(s) made in the reading that may require additional explanation or visual representation to assist in the teaching of that lesson and help further the understanding of and/or relation to the storyline. Also included are assessments with answer keys and culminating activity options.
The whole unit can be implemented in a seven-week time frame. If it is preferred to assign the reading as homework, or modify the activities, the unit could be completed in three or four weeks. A suggested schedule is included but adjustments can be made to fit individual schedules.
